The Space Between
Every day it feels like we are living inside the protective bubble of technology as a means of helping to fill the void between us.
In the past, we took for granted getting our emotional needs met by any means necessary. There is an undeniable need for human connection. People flock to big cities, only to be stacked in buildings on top each other. Packed in so tightly, intimately close—despite being complete strangers. Even if we prefer wide open spaces—a smile on a screen, is not the equal equivalent of embracing those we love.
Now we are seeing what cannot be fulfilled by screens alone. Even when we visit in person, while maintaining a distance, the space between pulls apart our insides in a way that mimics longing. Reaching for what cannot be touched.
For the very first time in history, we are experiencing the emotional limits of technology. In the past, we could use it as a life raft, that would help us tread water until the boat arrived.
We are all waiting.
Eagerly.
Impatiently.
Desperate, to see a boat.
From the very beginning, we innately seek closeness. As mothers, we have witnessed our babies reach out to us, asking to be held. Even before they learn words, they learn togetherness. Needing our love above all else; connecting one heart to another.
