What We Carry
This year we cannot celebrate the holidays in a way that feels familiar.
How easy it is to only focus on the negative, on this unrelenting year of loss.
But what if we break it down into simpler parts, so we can begin to recognize the things that still remain:
Love.
Hope.
Time with our children.
These are fixed points.
Yes, we are missing physical connection—togetherness;
But togetherness still exists even when it looks and feels different.
If you’ve ever lost a loved one, you know this to be the case—
Their spirit lives on within us.
EE Cummings said, “i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it”.
What if we spend less time mourning what once was, and more time in gratitude for what we have before us.
For what we carry within us.
