How Can I Hold You Up?

Imagine a woman in labor.

Her partner squeezing her hands, eyes clenched, jaw tight, in attempt to lessen her burden.

To lighten the load.

To transfer the pain.

Those of us that have experienced labor, know that while our partner is an essential player, we are the only ones capable of giving birth.

To do what needs to be done to make it safely to the other side.

During this session of Body Well each of us have our very own obstacles to overcome.

Just like instances in motherhood, that feel bigger than we are—there will be times when we wish we could shout for someone else to come take over. It can feel overwhelming.

But just as in labor, no one can take the place of where we are standing.

The next time we reach out, as we all will, instead of asking, “How are you holding up?”

Why not ask, “How can I hold you up?”

The weight of those words, in their message relay our exact intent; what we would do for each other, if only we could.

It’s such a beautiful thought.

Imagining those we love behind us; channeling their strength, just knowing that the love they carry for us, will help to carry us through.
